Introduction
The College of Life Sciences aims to produce creative and active talented individuals who spearhead pure and applied biotechnology, which is one of Korea’s next generation of growth engines, via in-depth education and research using cutting-edge techniques. This college was established in 2008 by integrating three existing departments, which included the Department of Molecular Biology that previously belonged to the College Natural Sciences, the Department of Food Engineering and the Department of Biotechnology, which both previously belonged to the College of Engineering. By integrating the bio-related departments and consolidating the academic system, it provided better education and provided a synergy with the research as well establish a basis for the convergence of BT, NT, and IT. In addition, the College of Life Sciences leads the domestic and global biotechnology field by producing field-oriented research personnel who possess world-class expertise. This is achieved by establishing an educational infrastructure with enhanced experimentation and practices as well as by running a joint education program between our own institutions, which include the Institute of Life Sciences and the Institute of Carbohydrate Materials, and companies or research institutes.
